Artist Unit Introduction

Day 1:
40 min. --> Pretest

Day 2:
5 min. --> "What is Art?" Video
35 min. --> Vocabulary Introduction (powerpoint)

Objective:

Students will be able to define the important vocabulary terms related to art.

Activities:

Day 1:
  • Students will begin the class period by taking the artist unit pre-test
    • Students that finish early will read a book until all students have completed.

Day 2:
  • Watch the video "What is Art?"
  • Hand out the Art Vocabulary Packets for students
  • Go through the Art Vocabulary PowerPoint giving students notes about each term as they appear in the powerpoint and on the notetaking sheet.
  • Quiz students on the way out the door.
    • What is a portrait? What is a sea scape? What is a city scape? etc.
  • Homework: Blog comment on http://mmshumanities.blogspot.com/
    • Describe your Experiences: In 3-4 complete sentences, describe your experiences with art up to this point. What about art do you enjoy? Where in your life have you seen or used art? Comment Due: Friday, February 4.

Evaluate:

  • Correct Pre-Tests (pre-test grades will not be graded)
  • Exit questions will determine if students met the objective of the day.
  • Blog response on students' experiences with art.
