Objective:

Students will study the life and works of Leonardo DaVinci
Students will recreate their own version of the Mona Lisa

Activities:

Day 1:
  • Journal: If you could draw anyone, who would it be and why? Discuss journal question after all students have answered
  • Watch DaVinci Video Clip
  • Hand out Blank Artist Data Sheets
  • View DaVinci powerpoint, reminding students to be taking notes throughout the discussion
Day 2:
  • Journal: Describe the foreground, middle ground and background of the Mona Lisa
  • Divide students into 7 groups
  • Students will read through the DaVinci picture book and answer the questions on the reading guide.
  • Reading Guides will be turned in at the end of the day
  • Students that finish early will have the opportunity to begin recreating their own Mona Lisa
  • Last 5 minutes of class: DaVinci Quiz on Senteo Clickers

Evaluate:

  • I will walk around during work time to question and listen to group discussions
  • Students guided readings will be evaluated
  • Make Mona Lisa Your Own will be graded (15 points)
    • 5 points: School Appropriate
    • 5 points: Color was used
    • 5 points: creative, background asymmetrical
  • Students will take a short quiz over DaVinci at the end of Day 2
