Activities:

Day 1:
  • Journal: fill in the chart with your guess of a definition of the following terms: "Michelangelo Buonarotti", "Fresco", "Madonna", and "Pieta"
  • Students view the video clip introducing Michelangelo
  • Show powerpoint on Michelangelo. Students take notes on their note taking guide

Day 2:
  • Students fill in chart from Day 1 with the actual definitions.
  • Show Agony and the Ecstasy video clips, showcasing the most important parts of the movie

Day 3:
  • Journal: If you could be paid to draw any one thing, what would that thing be?
  • collect journal questions
  • Students log into Senteo Clickers and take Quiz #2 over DaVinci and Michelangelo
  • Explain to students they will be commissioned to draw something today.
  • Outline rubric, make sure students understand
  • After students understand the task, let them know the paper for their commission is under their chairs.
  • Hand out their commissions. (Journals from the beginning of class)
  • Students will work on their commissions for the remainder of the class. Commissions must be completed before they leave.
  • When students complete their commission, they each take their paper out from under their chair, and replace another one for the next class.

Evaluate:

  • The lesson was evaluated with a rubric and the student's commission work.
  • A quiz was also evaluated over DaVinci and Michelangelo.
